The big break in her career came about in 1992 when she acted as a support character in the film Basic Instinct. It was in The Firm however that she was chosen as the female lead for the first time, and this was also against famous actors such as Tom Cruise and Gene Hackman. Through the 1990s Gwyneth collaborated together with Hugh Grant on Mickey Blue Eyes as well as Julie Andrews for Relative Values. She played the role of Dr. Alex Blake on the well-known international crime show Criminal Minds.
